Three graduate students (Dulce Meldau, Sylvana Ricciarini and Elvin Yuzugullu) attended a career fair and an informative pre-event seminar held by Women for Hire, an organization established to guide women in their career search.

While it may seem that that the importance of networking is often overstated it does work very well. Last Semester (Fall 2003), I, a full time graduate student in the program, was searching for some volunteer opportunities within the program.

Graduate student Justin A. Spenillo is a program analyst in the Sustainable Facilities Practices Branch of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and is currently working on a project at EPA Headquarters in Federal Triangle dealing with urban stormwater runoff and collection.

Mili Mavely-Washington, a former Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Environmental and Energy Management Program and a 2002 GW graduate (M.A. in Environmental and Resources policy), recently began a new job with the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) in Fairfax, Virginia.

Minister of Environment from Egypt Gives Speech on Environmental Policies

On November 26, 2002, Dr. Nadia Ebeid, the first minister appointed to the newly created Ministry of the Environment in Egypt, gave an overview of the environmental issues in her country and shared her experiences in implementing policies. Dr. Ebeid is also the first female Minister of the Environment in the Arab World. She was influential in the incorporation of environmental issues in Egypt's Five-Year Development Plan (2002 - 2007) and worked with Egyptian cabinet ministers, the private sector, and the civil society.
