EEMI Hosts U.S. Department of State - Government of Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue

June 30, 2023

On April 19, 2023, the SEAS-based Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) hosted an official "US-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue" meeting by the U.S. Department of State and the Government of Thailand. The meeting was held in the University’s Science and Engineering Hall.

EEMI Meets with Leaders of Romanian-American University

May 23, 2023

On June 2, 2023, members of the SEAS-based Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) met with leaders of the Romanian-American University (RAU) of Bucharest, Romania, to discuss potential joint educational and research programs. Participating from the RAU were Dr. Costel Negricea, Rector of the Romanian-American University; Dr. Lucian Botea, Vice President for Partnership Development; and Nicolae Nica, Assistant to the Rector. Also participating was Dusan Marinkovic, Senior International Trade Officer with the International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C.

On June 12, 2022, Morten Svendstorp joined the EEMI as a Visiting Scholar. Morten currently is a strategic advisor to the Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities and previously was a senior advisor on climate, energy and the environment at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C. from 2015-17. Prior to that he was a political advisor to the Danish Social Democratic Party in the Danish Parliament from 2010-2015.

EEMI Leads GW Delegation to COP27

January 1, 2023

EEMI Director of Operations Dr. Mukes Kapilashrami coordinated the planning and led a session by GW’s five-person delegation to COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in November 2022. The GW session, held in the UNFCCC Pavilion in the COP27 Blue Zone, on November 17, 2022, was entitled “Eco-Smart Inclusive Governance.”

UNFCCC Secretariat Awards Climate Change Research Grant to EEMI

December 3, 2022

On September 27, 2022, GW’s Environmental and Energy Management Institute was awarded a grant from the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to develop a guide for participants in UNFCCC climate change processes. The project includes preparing three asynchronous web-based courses providing an orientation to compliance and implementation requirements under the Paris Agreement as well as background on law and governance foundations underlying the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol.

EEMI Conducts Wartime Symposium with Sixteen Ukrainian Delegates

On September 2, 2022, EEMI conducted a symposium on “Russia's War, the World's Food: The Successes and Challenges of Ukrainian Agricultural Producers in the Midst of War” in the Lehman Auditorium of the Science and Engineering hall.

On September 19, 2022, EEMI Director Jonathan Deason served as the opening plenary speaker for the second day of the 2022 Natural Resources Symposium that was held in the GW Law School.

News of EEM Students and Faculty

December 1, 2022

In October 2022, EEMI co-founder and long-time EEMI Co-Director Joe Cascio relocated to Mission Viejo, California. Joe will continue to be active in the EEMI, continuing his service to SEAS and GW as the EEMI Deputy Director, remaining active in research, and maintaining his active educational role via hybrid and online teaching.
