In a rare circumstance, EEMI colleagues won both of the 2023 GW Engineering Excellence Awards for Teaching. EEMI ExecuAve Director Dr. Jonathan Deason won the SEAS DisAnguished Teaching Award and EEMI Internal Affiliate Dr. John Paul Helveston won the SEAS Outstanding Early Career Teaching Award. The awards were presented by SEAS Dean John Lach at a November 15 ceremony attended by SEAS faculty, students, and staff.

GW Engineering Excellence Awards for Teaching awards were established in 2009 to recognize and celebrate the teaching success of regular SEAS faculty members. Criteria for the awards are based on student evaluations, peer assessments of teaching, student feedback, the scope of courses taught, mentoring of students, course and program development, and innovative and effective teaching practices. EvaluaAons are conducted by the SEAS Teaching Awards Committee, which is appointed by the Dean.

Professors Deason and Helveston both made presentations of their approaches to teaching at an assembly of the SEAS faculty before the November 15 awards ceremony.

Past EEMI winners of the SEAS Outstanding Early Career Teaching Award are EEMI Director of Energy Innovation Dr. Saniya LeBlanc and EEMI Internal Affiliate Dr. Ekundayo Shittu.
