New Joint MS/JD Energy Law and Management Joint Degree Program Coming Soon

A new joint JD/MS degree program between the EMSE EEM concentration and the Energy Law program of the Law School will launch when the next GW Bulletin becomes effective. The new JD/MS degree program in Energy Law and Management degree program was developed by Dr. Kristoffer Svendsen, Associate Dean for Energy Law, and Dr. Jonathan Deason, Lead Professor for the EEM focus area.

Dr. Trina Fletcher, who graduated with her Master of Science degree in Environmental and Energy Management at GW in 2012, recently was named Associate Dean and Professor of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, her undergraduate alma mater.

GW EEM Students and Faculty Celebrate 2025 Graduation Ceremonies

During the weekend of May 15-18, 2025, EEM students and faculty experienced a wonderful series of graduation celebrations, starting with the GW Engineering Doctoral Hooding ceremony on Thursday, followed by the GW Engineering 2025 Celebration of Student Achievement, and topped off by the George Washington University’s graduation ceremonies on the National Mall on Sunday, May 18.

Professor Eric Dano Leads Project to Increase Recycled Content of Dell Technologies Computer Product Line

EEMI Deputy Director Dr. Eric Dano has been leading a project to help the Dell Technologies company increase the recycled content of its computer product line. The project, which began in the Fall 2024 semester, continued with the Spring 2025 Master’s Capstone Project for grad students Chaitanya Aggarwal, Rawad Bou Alwan, Daniel Fisher, Arjun Lenin, Edward Ssemambo, and Myo Hlaing Win.

EEM Professor Dr. Teresa Pohlman made a presentation on Accelerating Decarbonization Through Strategic Collaboration at the March 25, 2025, Decarb Summit on “Higher Education: Advancing Sustainability & Decarbonization” (https://www.decarbsummits.com/) conducted at the Catholic University of America. Dr. Pohlman’s panel was entitled “Navigating Energy & Decarbonization Under the New Administration.”

On February 21, 2025, GW Engineering-based Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) conducted a hugely popular web-based seminar entitled “Guardrails of Governance: Legal and Administrative Resilience in Trump 2.0.” The webinar, which attracted more than 1,200 registered participants, was a follow-up to the December 18, 2024, EEMI-produced webinar entitled “Navigating the Trump 2 Deregulatory Agenda: Lessons from Environmental Officials in Trump 1” (https://eem.engineering.gwu.edu/eemi-conducts-hugely-popular-webinar-protecting-environment-upcoming-presidential-administration).

EEMI Reflects on Past Interactions with the Late President Jimmy Carter

President Jimmy Cater’s death at age 100 in December 2024 prompted some reflections and reminiscences by several EMMI colleagues. Dr. Andras Simonyi, former Hungarian Ambassador to the United States, recalled a long conversation with President Carter, followed by Carter’s decision to return the Crown of St. Stephen to the Hungarian people in 1978, which had been held by the U.S. since the end of World War II in 1945.

EEM alumnus Mu Hu recently accepted a position as a Data Scientist at the Albemarle Corporation, based in Charlotte, NC. ALB is a lithium mining public company in the U.S. that sells lithium ores and salts to battery manufacturers or automobile OEMs; lithium being an extremely important material for electric vehicle batteries.
