EEM alumnus Mu Hu recently accepted a position as a Data Scientist at the Albemarle Corporation, based in Charlotte, NC. ALB is a lithium mining public company in the U.S. that sells lithium ores and salts to battery manufacturers or automobile OEMs; lithium being an extremely important material for electric vehicle batteries.

WTOP News, established in 1926, includes an array of news outlets in the Washington DC region, including several ratio stations, social media outlets such as its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and a popular website.

On November 13, 2024, the GW Environmental and Energy Management Institute was featured in a presentation to a conference of the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). INCOSE is a not-for-profit membership organization founded to develop and disseminate the transdisciplinary principles and practices that enable the realization of successful systems in the interest of developing the global community of systems engineers and systems approaches to problems.

EEMI Hosts U.S. State Department Delegation from Kazakhstan Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources

On May 21, 2024, EEMI hosted a US State Department-sponsored delegation from Kazakhstan. The delegation was visiting the US on the topic “Best Practices for Developing National Air Quality Standards” under the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The delegates were visiting the US to meet with experts on air quality standards to learn how standards are determined, how air quality is monitored, the debate about regulations, and the impact of air quality on health.

Recent News of EEM Students, Graduates and Faculty

August 26, 2024

2006 EEM Ph.D. graduate Dr. Michael Helwig has been appointed as a full-time Associate Teaching Professor at the Colorado School of Mines starting with the Fall 2024 semester. After earning his Ph.D. at GW, Dr. Helwig worked as a research analyst at The Institute for Defense Analyses, as a senior engineer for the National Renewable Energy Lab, and as an instructor at Iowa State University and Kansas State University.

Environmental and Energy Management Students Celebrate 2024 Graduation

August 26, 2024

Several dozen EEM program graduates were prominent among the more than 700 graduates of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the 2024 Graduation Celebration on Friday evening, May 17, 2024. With a full complement of more than 4,000 parents, siblings, spouses, children, and other relatives and friends present to honor their accomplishments, graduates walked across the stage at the Smith Center to receive their diplomas and congratulations from Dean John Lach and the SEAS faculty.

EEMI and Delegation from Oman Explore Research Collaboration Opportunities

On April 23, members of the GW Engineering Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) met with delegates from the Sultanate of Oman to discuss collaborative research activities. Representing GW were Professor Scott Sklar, EEMI Director of Sustainable Energy, and Jonathan Deason, EEMI Executive Director. Attending from Oman were Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kalbani, Director-General of the Oman Environment Authority; Counselor Eng. Nasr Khalaf Al Saidi from the Oman Foreign Ministry; and Dr. Saleh Nasser Al-Saadi, Director of the Sustainable Energy Research Center at the Sultan Qaboos University near Muscat.
