EEMI Hosts U.S. State Department Delegation from Kazakhstan Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources

On May 21, 2024, EEMI hosted a US State Department-sponsored delegation from Kazakhstan. The delegation was visiting the US  on the topic “Best Practices for Developing National Air Quality Standards” under the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The delegates were visiting the US to meet with experts on air quality standards to learn about how standards are determined, how air quality is monitored, the debate about regulations, and the impact of air quality on health.

At the EEMI meeting, which was held in the Science and Engineering Hall, a comprehensive discussion was held on EPA’s Good Neighbor Rule, specifically about what it does, its impact, and why it is before the Supreme Court.

The State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program, launched in 1940 and funded by the Bureau of Educational And Cultural Affairs, promotes mutual understanding between the United States and other nations through professional visits to the United States for current and emerging foreign leaders. The participants, selected by U.S. embassies in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, represent government, politics, the media, education, nongovernmental organizations, the arts, public health, international security, business and trade, and other fields. During their visits to the United States, participants meet with their American counterparts to share experiences and best practices while learning about the rich diversity of U.S. culture and society.
