EEMI Faculty and Students Conduct Panel at AIM for Climate Ministerial Summit

On May 10, 2023, the SEAS-based GW Environmental and Energy Management Institute (EEMI) conducted a panel at the US-UAE AIM for Climate Ministerial Summit in Washington, D.C. Panelists discussed four initiatives leading up to and beyond COP 28 in Dubai being undertaken by the Institute. EMSE Professor Jonathan Deason moderated the panel, which consisted of the following presentations:

Topic 1 - “Capacity building to help developing nations to participate more strongly in UNFCCC processes” - Presenter: EEMI Director of Operations Dr. Mukes Kapilashrami

Topic 2 – “Youth empowerment in climate change and food security” – Presenter: EEMI Director of Global Business Sustainability Dr. Salah Hassan

Topic 3 – “Post-war reconstruction of the Ukrainian agricultural sector” – Presenter: EEMI Director of Food Security and Agriculture Mark Pollins

Topic 4 – “Bringing national defense resources into the solution of climate-impacted food security and other climate-induced problems" – Presenter : EEMI Director of Innovative Energy Strategies Alex Beehler

The event included participation by senior officials from the World Bank, the US-UAE Business Council, Business Council for International Understanding, US Department of Agriculture, and several other organizations, along with a number of representatives of the United Arab Emirates government. Discussants included EMSE Professor Caitlin Grady, ECE Professor Payman Dehghanian, and EMSE graduate students Rashed Aldhaheri, Rashed Aldarmaki, and Khalfan Aldhaheri.
