EEM Doctoral Candidate Displays Research at 2013 SEAS R&D; Showcase

EEM doctoral candidate Iryna Payosova exhibited the preliminary results of her research and made a presentation at the 2013 SEAS Research and Development Showcase on February 20, 2013. The title of Iryna’s exhibit was “A Multiobjective ‘Analysis of Alternatives’ Tool for Energy Investments at Fixed-Site Installations.”

E&EM; Graduate Antoinette Nyomba Undertakes Major Initiatives in Western African Nation

Antoinette Nyomba, a 2009 EEM graduate, recently was appointed to a major government position to lead an anti-corruption enterprise in the Western African nation of Gabon, while at the same time pursuing establishment of a “green city” in Gabon as designed in her Professional Degree project at GW.

EEM Grad Organizes Passive Energy House Tour in Berlin

Recent EEM Doctoral graduate Kristin Deason organized a 2012 tour of a passive apartment building in Berlin, Germany, in association with the Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP), an organization in which Kristin is active. Members of ELEEP, along with the general public, were invited as Joerg Meyerhoff, community relations chairman, resident, and co-founder of the passive house project, gave a tour of the building and its surroundings.

EEM Net Zero Water Research Project Presented at ASEM International Conference

EEM Doctoral candidate Iryna Payosova and Professor Jonathan Deason presented the results of an EEM sponsored research project at the 2012 International Annual Conference of the American Society of Engineering Management on October 19, 2012 at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The paper summarized the results of a recently completed research project, sponsored by the Logistics Management Institute, focused on Department of Defense installation water use efficiency.

EEM Faculty and Students Participate in Symposium on DOD and the Next Generation of Energy Technology

On July 25, 20102, several EEM grad students and faculty participated in a symposium to examine the Department of Defense’s push for next generation energy technology. Participation in the event, which was entitled “The Department of Defense and Next Generation Energy Technology,” was part of EEM's research program on Net Zero Energy.

GW Establishes Sustainability Minor

Starting in Fall 2012, the George Washington University offers a new 18-credit Minor in Sustainability, open to all undergraduate students (classes 2014 and later). The initiative to implement the new minor was coordinated by GW’s Institute for Sustainability, of which the EEM program is a part.

LMI-Sponsored Research Projects Undertaken Over Summer and Fall Semesters

In the Summer of 2012, the EMSE Department was awarded two research grants from the Logistics Management Institute (LMI) for research on issues important to LMI’s mission. Doctoral candidate Iryna Payosova (advised by Professor Jonathan Deason) is undertaking research on "A Multiobjective 'Analysis of Alternatives' Tool for Energy Investments at Fixed-Site Installations" and Doctoral candidate Joanna Resurreccion (advised by Assistant Professor Joost Santos) is undertaking research on "Resilience Enhancement Planning for Interdependent Critical Infrastructure Systems."
