EEM Faculty Have an Active Season with Conference Presentation

The Summer/Fall 2021 semesters saw multiple presentations by EEM faculty at major conference events.

U.S.-China Carbon Neutral Technology Innovation Summit

On June 15, 2021, EEMI Professor Joe Casio gave a plenary address at the U.S.-China Carbon Neutral Technology Innovation Summit, sponsored by the George W. Bush China Foundation, the National Center for Sustainable Development, and the Energy Investment Professional Committee of the China Investment Association, along with Neil Bush and other notable speakers.

The purpose of the conference ass to integrate global zero-carbon smart resources under the framework of new ideas for the reform of the global economic governance system, comprehensively analyze the strategic positioning of carbon neutral development, explore clean energy, low-carbon, safe, and efficient development paths, and share solutions for zero-carbon transformation and innovative models, to jointly seek a "carbon neutral" development plan, and to strengthen Sino-US scientific and technological innovation cooperation and exchanges and achieve China-US carbon neutrality.

World Institute of Sustainable Energy Green Business Seminar

On June 25, 2021, Dr. Jigar Shah, a Visiting Scholar and Advisory Board Member in the SEAS Environmental and Energy Management Institute, co-anchored a webinar on “How Green Is Your Business: Why You Need to Go Green and How to Do It.” Praveena Sanjay, Director of Climate and Sustainability at the World Institute of Sustainable Energy, was the other co-anchor. The webinar helped participants understand the environmental and economic benefits of going green and covered a series of best practices in green business.

Before joining EEMI, Dr. Shah was a Principal Industry Specialist at the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group). Prior to his service at the IFC, he was the Executive Director of the Institute for Industrial Productivity, an international non-profit organization with a mission to decarbonize industry.

Department of Homeland Security Human Capital Symposium

On September 8, 2021, Professors Ed Saltzberg and Jonathan Deason made plenary presentations at the Department of Homeland Security’s 2021 Human Capital Symposium. The event was a Department-wide training and education conference celebrating our “Shared Connections, Opportunities, and Experiences” and was accessible to all 285,000 DHS employees nationwide.

  • Higher Education Fair: University representatives described their degree and certification programs for DHS employees and their eligible family members
  • Leadership and Career Development Sessions: DHS programs including HR Academy, DHS Mentorship Program, Joint Duty Program, Joint Mission Fellows Program, and Homeland Security Rotation Program.
  • HR Training Sessions: Information about a variety of HR subjects including recruiting, onboarding, compensation, EEO, HR communications, internal transfers, Delegated Examining certifications.
  • Workplace Skills Sessions: Best practices for coaching, resume writing, teleworking, emergency preparedness
