The planning for the International Conference on Energy and the Environment (ICEE) continues with increasing activities. The conference is to take place in Shanghai, China, between the 22nd and 24th of May, 2003. ICEE is organized by universities in China and the United States: the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the George Washington University. At the US counterpart, an organizing committee was established at the final months of 2001, consisting of faculty and students from GW. In the following months, faculty from the University of Maryland University College, Howard University, and the Catholic University of America also joined the committee.
The ICEE will serve as a platform to discuss major energy and environment related issues. Professionals from governments, industry, organizations, and academia will have the opportunity to engage in dialogues on the critical issues that we are facing today. As population continues to increase, so does the demand for energy. If a balance between energy demand and environmental protection is not found, the adverse effects we are observing at present will also increase, leaving us and the following generations with not too bright of a future.
The US organizing committee has distributed tasks among its members by way of subcommittees. These are the sponsorship, marketing, budget, and academic program subcommittees. Currently, the sponsorship subcommittee is coordinating sponsorship issues. The sponsorship levels have been determined, and a brochure is being prepared for the distribution of this information to potential sponsors. All members of the committee are working on finding potential sponsors.
Additionally, a website has been developed by doctoral student Elvin Yuzugullu, in order to provide information on the conference in a more convenient and extensive manner. You can visit the website to get more detailed information on the conference. The ICEE website is continuously updated as more information becomes available.
