E&EM doctoral candidate Sergio B. Botero has joined the Energy and Thermodynamics Group (ETG) at the Research Center of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia.  The ETG assists industries in identifying energy bottlenecks, increasing equipment operating efficiency, and use of energy resources.

Since its beginning in 1979, the ETG has grown to become a major research element reporting to the Administrative Vice President of the University.  It has conducted energy audits in five industrial sectors, worked with the European Economic Community, and developed a number of computer models used to assist with energy conservation efforts.

Sergio, an E&EM doctoral candidate, successfully defended his doctoral proposal on “Energy Efficiency Business Options for Industrial End Users in Latin American Competitive Energy Markets” on April 10, 2000 and will be undertaking his dissertation research in conjunction with his new position.
