The International Conference on Energy & the Environment was featured in our Spring 2002 E&EM newsletter. The conference is being organized on an international platform: by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) in China and the George Washington University (GW) in the US. ICEE will be held May 22-24, 2003 in Shanghai, China and will provide a platform to discuss and suggest solutions to issues relating to the two inter-related concepts of energy and the environment.

The US organizing committee has been pursuing its activities since Fall of 2001, and has evolved from an initial creation of a committee of faculty and doctoral students (both from GW and other universities), to sponsorship and marketing activities. At the July meeting, the US organizing committee welcomed the visit of Dr. Daoping Liu from USST, who is the Executive Secretary of the ICEE. The committee and Dr. Liu were able to share ideas and discuss planning issues in more detail.

Up to date, there has been great interest in the conference, with over 300 abstracts submitted on various topics. In the meantime, the US organizing committee is pursuing it's activities for sponsorship support by getting in touch with contacts and mailing sponsorship information (For more details, see the sponsorship brochure). Additionally, the conference is being advertised primarily via the ICEE website and also announcements at related conferences and activities, personal contacts and mailings.

The meetings of the US organizing committee continue on a monthly basis, and the E&EM newsletter will keep you updated on the developments. Visit the ICEE website for detailed and up-to-date information.
