Dr. Jigar V. Shah will debut as the new E&EM instructor for the EMSE 227 Analytical Tools for Energy Management course beginning in the Fall 2006 semester. Dr. Shah has worldwide experience as an energy efficiency expert, managing many complex projects related to the development of new energy sources, conducting energy efficiency assessments in the refining, metal, paper, food and chemical industries; managing the purchase and sale of fuel and power assets; and developing technological and operational modifications to reduce energy cost and improve efficiency.
Dr. Shah presently serves as the Director for Global Energy Management Services, at the SAIC Corporation in McLean, Virginia. He previously was President of Energy Prime, Inc. in Vienna, Virginia; Vice President –for International Programs for Pace Global Energy Services, LLC, in Fairfax, Virginia and London, and Director of the EPRI Chemicals and Petroleum Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Shah has extensive international experience, having worked on energy projects in Brazil , Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Russian Federation, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Venezuela and the United States.
The EMSE 227 course is based on the imperative that we use existing sources of energy as efficiently as possible, minimize the adverse health and environmental effects resulting from energy usage, and identify and follow well-reasoned strategies for the development and use of new energy sources in the future. The course examines the range of energy conservation methods and techniques to reduce environmental pollution problems associated with energy use, including energy auditing, energy management economics, and demand side management. It also covers related aspects of the environmental health problems of indoor air including sources, health effects, mitigation and energy related aspects.
