Dr. Dominic J. Monetta, President of Resource Alternatives, Inc., was the guest speaker at the April 28, 2000, luncheon meeting of the American Society of Engineering Management (ASEM), held at GW’s new Faculty Club. Dr. Monetta’s firm specializes in energy utilization, environmental remediation, and critical issue analysis.
A GW graduate, Monetta previously served as Deputy Director of Defense Research and Engineering, U.S. Department of Defense, where he managed the $7.5 billion defense science and technology program. He also was Director of the Office of New Production Reactors, U.S. Department of Energy, and Technical Director, Naval Ordnance Station, U.S. Department of the Navy. In addition to his presidency of Resource Alternatives, Dr. Monetta also is the Managing Director of Brownfield Laconia Strategies, LLC, a firm specializing in the environmental redemption of brownfield sites. E&EM graduate students attending Dr. Monetta’s presentation on problems with the management of large projects included Eric Uzo Chukwu (E&EM doctoral student), Ed Haggerty (E&EM doctoral student), Wendell Davis (E&EM graduate, now working for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation), and Gail Charles (E&EM masters student and former Senior Vice President, Dames & Moore, Inc.). In addition, another dozen faculty members and graduate students from the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering attended the session, as well as individuals from other environmental and engineering organizations in the Washington, D.C., area.
