James Lynch, a recent addition to the GW Environmental and Energy Management Masters Program, participated in a six month internship in the Environmental Protection Agency. Working through the Environmental Careers Organization, he was placed in the Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water’s Standards and Risk Management Division and its Standards and Risk Reduction Branch in Washington, DC. There Jim worked in an environmental communications and risk assessment position under veteran risk assessment manager and statistician Dr. Michael Messner.
Some of Jim's job tasks included risk assessment for potential groundwater and drinking water contaminants, compilation and interpretation of data received from various monitoring locations, communication via email and group meetings to explain findings, and participation in agency training sessions and workshops to expand his career knowledge in multidisciplinary fields. Lynch also received an opportunity to attend the 125th American Water Works Association Water Quality Technology Conference in Denver, Colorado in November 2006.
