A number of E&EM students attended the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference that was held at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center on March 4-6, 2008. The event, which was the largest renewable energy business conference and exposition ever held in the U.S., was sponsored by the American Council On Renewable Energy along with leading U.S. renewable energy trade associations.

The main goal of WIREC 2008 was to bring together government, civil society and private business leaders to address the benefits and costs of a major and rapid scale-up in the global deployment of renewable energy technology.

Also in attendance at the major event were energy ministers from over 50 countries, President George Bush, and many other significant figures from around the world. The event included some 285 speakers on wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, biomass and biofuels and included more than 200 exhibitors.
