GW partnered with regional environmental groups to stage two events in April 2007 focused on global warming and environmental responsibility. During the events, three presenters trained by former Vice President Al Gore's Climate Project shared facts and fiction surrounding the global warming controversy.
The first free event, Step It Up 2007, was held on Sunday, April 15 at the GW Virginia Campus in Ashburn, Virginia. Participants joined with thousands of others across the country to rally for a "national day of climate action." Speakers at the event included Morris Meyer, President of Surfworks, which was one of the first organizations certified to give the Climate Project presentation, and Kara Ball, a trained Climate Project presenter with the National Wildlife Federation. Ball introduced the film Tipping Point, produced by the National Wildlife Federation, a film that explores the consequences of climate change for wildlife, its habitat and the people who enjoy it.
The second event commemorated Earth Day on Sunday, April 22 with a showing of Al Gore's Oscar-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth, at the Round Hill Center in Virginia. Climate Project Presenter Mary Lou Fox, President of Fox Supply Chain Consulting, led a community discussion following the movie.
