On April 16, 2008, GW hosted, in conjunction with the National Wildlife Federation, the 2nd annual Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming. The program, which included a live broadcast, was held in the Jack Morton Auditorium.
The event was aimed at two audiences: the live audience in the auditorium at GW and the broadcast audience that consisted of an additional 150 campuses and 274 organizations nationwide. It was aimed that more than 12,000 viewers that participated in the event. The Chill Out broadcast featured cutting-edge innovations in clean energy and sustainability.
Through energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other efforts, many schools are already modeling the most effective solutions to climate change. Colleges and universities that offer the best practical solutions to global warming being implemented around the country were presented with awards at the event. The event also included an interactive panel with opportunities for audience members to participate.
Speakers discussed actions that individual can take to reduce their own personal carbon footprints or work to reduce their campus footprints and thereby help confront global warming. Such actionsinclude replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs, riding the bus to class or work instead of driving, working with others on campus to create a greenhouse gas inventory, talking with campus administrators about making global warming a priority, and registering to vote.
