Dr. Jonathan P. Deason, Lead Professor of the Environmental and Energy Management program, Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering, SEAS, was appointed to a committee of the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences/National Academy of Engineering, in April 2000.

The Upper Mississippi River/Illinois Waterway System, on which the Committee's work is focused, is the largest and most important component of the U.S. inland navigation system. Professor Deason, one of 11 members appointed to the Committee, is focusing on the environmental analysis undertaken in the eight-year, $50 million study. The Committee's work is expected to be completed early in 2001.
