E&EM Professor Appears on CNN Radio Talk Show

Dr. Jonathan P. Deason, lead professor for the GW Environmental and Energy Management Program, was a guest on the radio talk show “GW Washington Forum” on June 29, 2000.  Deason appeared with Dr. J. Winston Porter, former Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Solid Waste and Emergency Response.


Along with host Richard Sheehe, Deason and Porter discussed problems with the federal “Superfund” program, a 20 year-old federal program designed to clean up the nation’s worst contaminated sites.  The Superfund program, which was established by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), has been controversial for a number of years and has been the subject of numerous bills recently in the

U.S. Congress.  The discussion provided by Deason and Porter helped to clarify some of the major issues involved in the national debate underway on this key national environmental program.  The program was broadcast over the weekend of July 8-9 on the CNN radio network (570 AM, WRRC) in Washington, D.C.
