GW Students Participate in Conference on the Ecological Dimensions of Biofuels

A number of GW environmental management students participated in conference on the ecological dimensions of biofuels that was held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC on March 10, 2008. The conference, hosted by the Ecological Society of America, featured presentations by leading scientists on sustainable development and the use of biofuels, as well as the social, biogeographic, land use, and biodiversity considerations involved in biofuels use.

GW Joins NCSE and AASHE

As a direct result of recommendations of GW’s new Sustainability Task Force, the University joined the National Council on Science and the Environment (NCSE) and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education during the spring 2008 semester (AASHE).

E&EM Lead Professor Jonathan Deason was featured on the Brazilian television network Globo Television in a program entitled “The Electric Cars Are Coming,” which was broadcast to 46 countries in March 2008. The newscast, which was filmed in Washington, D.C., was taped on March 2, 2008.

On April 17, 2008, President Steven Knapp signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. GW became the first university in the District of Columbia to sign the pledge and joins more than 500 signatories nationwide.
