EEM Receives Research Grant from NIST

Our new Environmental and Energy Management Institute received a $75,000 grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in September 2014. This project, entitled the GW Standards Education Initiative, is a collaborative effort between SEAS and the George Washington Institute of Public Policy (GWIPP).

GW Holds Major Environmental Book Release Event

May 4, 2014

A book release event was held on October 2, 2014 to announce and celebrate the release of a new book, “Next Generation Environmental Compliance and Enforcement,” by GW Professors LeRoy Paddock and Jessica Wentz. The event, held in the Law School Faculty Conference Center, was attended by EEM Professors Jonathan Deason and Joe Cascio.

Prof. Cascio Addresses National Defense University

Prof. Joe Cascio, Director of GW’s emerging Environmental and Energy Management Institute, is an icon at the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy of the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. The year 2014 marked the 15th year that Prof. Cascio has presented plenary presentations to NDU’s Environment Industry Study group.

Ira Payosova Assists Center for Strategic and International Studies

EEM doctoral candidate Ira Payosova was a key element in the September 10, 2014 program in which Ukrainian acclaimed music star and former Ukrainian Parliament Member, Ruslana Lyzhychko discussed the role of civil society in promoting peace via the Euromaidan movement in the internationally important conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Kathleen Merrigan Joins GW as Director of Sustainability Collaborative: EEM is a Major Component

U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Deputy Secretary, Kathleen Merrigan left the Obama Administration in May 2014 to join GW as Director of the Sustainability Collaborative: EEM is a major component. Since that time, Dr. Merrigan has worked closely with members of the EEM program and has been active in efforts to establish the Environmental and Energy Management Institute.
