More than three dozen EEM graduate students celebrated receipt of their new degrees at the May 14 School of Engineering and Applied Science and May 15 George Washington University graduation ceremonies. On May 14, the EEM graduates -- along with their families and friends -- packed the Charles E. Smith Center to be recognized for their academic achievements. The Celebration ceremonies included a speech by Dr. Michael Griffin, former Administrator of the National Space and Aeronautics Administration and graduate of the GW School of Engineering and Applied Science. SEAS Dean Dr. David Dolling also addressed the graduates, providing them with an inspiring charge for their future careers.
On May 15, the EEM graduates were treated to a spectacular ceremony on the National Mall. Keynote speaker Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City and potential U.S. presidential candidate, provided an inspiring address, urging graduates to take risks in their careers. “From my experience,” Bloomberg indicated, “those who take greater risks lead more rewarding lives.”
Former Secretary of Transpiration U.S. William Coleman, who also is a famed civil rights leader and education pioneer, and Peggy Cooper Cafritz, co-founder of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and GW graduate, also made addresses at the event.
